A report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) on April 20 shows that global energy demand growth slowed to 1.3% in 2025, below the 1.4% average of the past decade and significantly lower than in 2024. The slowdown is attributed to weaker global economic growth, milder extreme temperatures in some regions, and the rapid adoption of energy-efficient technologies. Meanwhile, global electricity consumption rose by 3% in 2025, driven by strong growth in electric vehicles (EVs) and data centers, whose electricity demand increased by 38% and 17%, respectively. Rising electricity demand was propelled across multiple sectors, including buildings and industry, and further amplified by the rapid expansion of EVs and data centers.
