Nissan Motor plans to invest $45 million in 2026 to expand its vehicle production operations in Egypt. The project will increase annual output at its local plant by roughly one-third and add a new production line with an annual capacity of at least 10,000 vehicles. Currently, the factory—located west of Cairo—produces approximately 30,000 vehicles per year. More than half of the components required for the additional capacity will be sourced locally in Egypt. This expansion is part of Nissan’s global restructuring plan, which includes workforce reductions and plant closures aimed at addressing a loss of approximately ¥275 billion (about $1.72 billion) in the last fiscal year. The move also underscores Nissan’s focus on low-cost manufacturing and export-oriented production. Over the past three years, Nissan Egypt has exported more than 25,000 vehicles to African countries, with Libya being its largest export market. Despite logistics disruptions caused by conflicts linked to Iran, Nissan is evaluating alternative logistics solutions to maintain its export operations. To date, Nissan has invested a total of $276 million in Egypt. The Egyptian government recently secured $57 billion in international financial support and is now driving an economic recovery centered on manufacturing to narrow its trade deficit. Nissan also expects to benefit from the ongoing expansion of the African Continental Free Trade Area into the automotive sector. Additionally, earlier this month, Nissan unveiled its “Intelligent Mobility for Everyday Life” strategy, outlining long-term goals to apply its AI Drive technology to 90% of future models, streamline its product lineup from 56 to 45 models, and broaden its powertrain offerings.
