On the afternoon of May 10, during the 2026 Great Wall Motor Smart Factory Half Marathon event, Wei Jianjun, Chairman of Great Wall Motor, held a dialogue with the media. Speaking about Chinese automakers' global expansion, he noted that automobiles are not fast-moving consumer goods; they have a long lifecycle and high value, typically representing a household’s second-largest expense after housing. Consumers are therefore highly sensitive to vehicle resale value and ownership costs. Wei emphasized that Chinese automakers should expand into overseas markets in a high-quality manner, delivering products and services that overseas customers can rely on over the long term. He warned that if product quality and after-sales service cannot be guaranteed—or if companies themselves struggle to sustain operations—it would erode overseas consumers’ trust in Chinese enterprises. He further stated that when going global, companies should focus on contributing local tax revenue and job opportunities, while respecting the laws and cultures of host countries, thereby achieving sustainable and mutually beneficial development.
