Cadillac has filed a recall with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for all 2026 and 2027 model-year Vistiq (sold as the Lyriq in some markets), its all-electric three-row SUV, covering all units produced for the U.S. market—approximately 14,540 vehicles in total. The affected vehicles were manufactured between November 12, 2024, and April 9, 2026, as well as between January 16, 2026, and June 15, 2026. Sales of the Vistiq began with the 2026 model year. The recall stems from an issue with the third-row power-folding seats: although the seats stop automatically when encountering an obstruction during folding, they do not reverse direction to rise back up. This could potentially trap smaller occupants beneath the seatback, posing an injury risk. Effective June 8, 2026, Cadillac has suspended new vehicle deliveries of the Vistiq and is currently developing a remedy. Until the official fix is implemented, dealers may disable the third-row power-folding function upon customer request. Since the seat lacks a manual adjustment mechanism, owners must choose before leaving the dealership whether to keep the third row in the upright or folded position. Once repaired, the system will automatically return the seat to the upright position if it detects an obstruction during folding. The issue originated from a report submitted on March 31, 2024, by a General Motors engineer through the company’s internal “Speak Up For Safety” safety reporting program. During testing, the engineer placed a box weighing 15 to 18 kilograms on the seat and found that after the seat stopped due to the obstruction, the box could not be removed. To date, GM has received six related complaints but no reports of injuries.
