Cadillac announced on July 7 a recall of 14,540 units of the 2026 and 2027 model-year all-electric three-row SUV Lyriq Vistiq, covering all vehicles produced for the U.S. market. The recall stems from a safety issue involving the third-row power-folding seats: if an obstruction is encountered during automatic folding, the seat stops moving but does not automatically reverse to its upright position, potentially trapping smaller occupants beneath the seatback and posing an injury risk. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has confirmed this safety defect. Cadillac suspended deliveries of new Vistiq vehicles starting June 8. Until a formal remedy is implemented, dealers may disable the third-row seat-folding function upon customer request. Once repaired, the seats will automatically return to the upright position if an obstruction is detected during folding. The issue originated from a test finding reported internally on March 31 by a General Motors engineer through the company’s “SpeakUpForSafety” safety reporting program, which revealed that after the seat stopped due to an obstruction, a box weighing approximately 15 to 18 kilograms could not be retrieved. To date, GM has received six related complaints, with no reported injuries.
