According to J.D. Power’s "U.S. Public EV Charging Experience Study," Ionity ranked first and Tesla fourth in user experience across multiple U.S. charging networks. Ionity, backed by automakers including BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Toyota, currently operates charging stations under the brand name “Rechargery” in the U.S. and has signed an agreement with Circle K to deploy charging infrastructure at more than 350 Circle K fuel stations. The Mercedes-Benz charging network ranked second, while the Rivian Adventure Network placed third and plans to install over 3,500 fast chargers across more than 600 locations in the U.S. and Canada. Red E, Electrify America, EVgo, and ChargePoint ranked lowest. The study found that overall customer satisfaction with DC fast chargers increased by 12 points to 666 (on a 1,000-point scale), with improvements observed across all 10 measured attributes. Availability of charging stations rose by 27 points, while satisfaction with safety at charging locations and charging costs each improved by 18 points. The rate of visits where users couldn’t complete charging dropped to 12%, the lowest level on record. However, satisfaction with Level 2 public chargers declined by 12 points, primarily due to issues related to payment convenience and ease of charging. DC fast chargers located at auto dealerships and standalone parking lots or garages also failed to satisfy consumers.
