Although Jaguar has announced its full transition to electrification and ceased production of its last internal combustion engine model, the F-Pace, last month, recent reports suggest its upcoming flagship electric GT, the Type 00, might still be equipped with a gasoline engine. According to The Times, concerned that pure-electric range alone may not fully alleviate customer "range anxiety," Jaguar engineers are secretly exploring the addition of a small gasoline engine to the Type 00 to act solely as a generator, effectively turning it into an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). This setup could boost total driving range to approximately 1,100 kilometers under WLTP testing conditions. The engine would not drive the wheels but would only serve to recharge the battery. The extended-range variant is currently in early development and will not launch alongside the all-electric version. Parent company JLR declined to comment but did not deny the rumors. If confirmed, the EREV version could be introduced later at a price higher than the all-electric model’s expected starting price of around $120,000.
