The State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of China) recently approved and released the mandatory national standard "Basic Requirements for Automotive Steering Systems," which will take effect on July 1, 2024. The standard focuses on emerging technologies such as steer-by-wire systems, specifying safety response strategies for scenarios including power source failure, interruption of control or energy transmission, and enhancing alarm mechanisms to provide timely warnings for aging or underperforming energy storage devices. Additionally, the standard strengthens functional safety requirements for electronic control systems to prevent risks caused by electronic control anomalies and optimizes functional safety verification test methods to improve enforceability. As a core system ensuring driving safety, this new national standard will establish a robust safety baseline for the implementation of steer-by-wire technology and support the intelligent development of the automotive industry.
