Huawei recently rolled out a major update to its intelligent driver-assistance system, adopting a noticeably more cautious driving style. The company stated that "defensive driving" has become the core objective of its model training—focusing on anticipating risks and proactively avoiding hazardous scenarios rather than relying on last-moment emergency braking. The new version introduces a "sandwich collision prevention" feature, implementing safer strategies in complex situations such as sharp turns and intersections. Huawei CEO Richard Yu emphasized that avoiding dangerous scenarios is more important than pursuing high-speed AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking), and that users’ psychological sense of safety is crucial for adoption. Industry data shows that in the first 11 months of 2025, the penetration rate of urban navigation-assisted driving in China reached 24.13%, with city-center scenarios approaching 10%. Meanwhile, data from both Tesla’s FSD and Huawei indicate that proper use of driver-assistance systems can significantly reduce accident rates. Experts stress that future intelligent driving development must be grounded in safety, and that increased computing power must be paired with robust software logic.
