According to BMW Blog, the all-electric entry-level SUV iX1 will break with convention by skipping its mid-cycle refresh (LCI) and moving directly to a second-generation model (internal code NB5), expected to enter production as early as November 2027. The new model will be built on BMW’s all-new “Neue Klasse” architecture and positioned as a “smaller iX3,” featuring either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive—completely abandoning the current generation’s front-wheel-drive layout. The second-generation iX1 will be equipped with sixth-generation cylindrical batteries and more efficient electric motors, delivering significantly improved range and energy efficiency. As a transitional measure ahead of the next generation, the current iX1 has already received a range upgrade: the eDrive20 variant now achieves 514 km (WLTP), while the xDrive30 version reaches 466 km. Meanwhile, the combustion-engine X1 will still undergo its scheduled mid-cycle refresh and will receive the new iDrive X infotainment system.
