Facing a 10% global sales decline last year and a sharp 26% drop in the Chinese market, Porsche is seeking to turn things around with high-margin models. At its annual press conference, CEO Michael Leiters revealed the company is considering developing a new flagship sports car positioned above the 911, which could become the brand’s next top-tier model following the 918 Spyder. Although the previously unveiled Mission X concept car has been speculated as a potential prototype, limited market acceptance of electric hypercars—such as the underperforming sales of the Rimac Nevera—makes it more likely that the new model will feature an internal combustion engine or a hybrid powertrain. Leiters emphasized the company’s intention to “extend the lifecycle of internal combustion and hybrid models” to meet customer demand. If approved, the project would still require three to four years before reaching production, but the move signals Porsche’s ambition to re-enter the ultra-high-performance supercar segment, competing directly against the Ferrari F80 and McLaren W1.
