Zeekr Owner's Cross-Border Drive Triggers In-Car Security Lockdown, Smart Features Restricted

Recently, a Zeekr owner from Henan province encountered an issue while driving abroad: the vehicle’s prolonged GPS location outside mainland China triggered the built-in security protection mechanism in the car’s infotainment system, temporarily restricting most smart features. This mechanism is a common anti-theft and anti-loss measure adopted across the automotive industry, designed to prevent vehicles from being smuggled or stolen and subsequently taken overseas, aligning with international regulations and vehicle import/export management requirements. When the system detects that a vehicle has remained overseas for an extended period, it first sends a standard notification to the user. If the abnormal location status persists, the vehicle’s display interface escalates to a prominent, high-visibility alert screen, prompting the owner to complete identity verification. Zeekr clarified that this mechanism does not affect core driving functions such as powertrain or braking, and will not lock the vehicle or render it undrivable. On affected models, the charging port cover—and on certain variants, the fuel tank cap—can be manually unlocked physically, without relying on touchscreen operations. After submitting the required documentation and successfully completing identity verification, owners can request an exclusive authorization code from Zeekr to dismiss the alert and restore full functionality of the smart features.
