On January 17, Jin Yuzhi, CEO of Huawei's Intelligent Automotive Solutions BU, emphasized at Huawei's Qiankun Media Day that Huawei exclusively uses automotive-grade chips across its intelligent driving systems, HarmonyOS cockpit, and vehicle control systems, firmly rejecting non-automotive-grade or low-quality components. He explained that automotive-grade chips must pass rigorous AEC-Q series tests—including thermal cycling, humidity, vibration, and electromagnetic compatibility—to ensure long-term reliability and safety redundancy. While consumer-grade chips may offer higher computing power and lower costs, they cannot meet the automotive industry’s stringent safety requirements. As an example, Jin noted that Huawei’s central control display has a failure rate of less than 200 PPM (parts per million), significantly outperforming some emerging EV brands whose failure rates exceed 2,000 PPM. Jin stressed that Huawei maintains strict quality control from the very selection of underlying components, refusing to compromise—even at the cost of higher expenses—because vehicles are directly tied to human safety.
