However, the vehicle showed no warning lights, exhibited no unusual symptoms, and had already been inspected by a trusted local mechanic before purchase. Instead of immediately agreeing to the repairs, he took the car to an independent repair shop for a second opinion. The technician there concluded, "Everything is fine—no repairs are needed." The blogger used this incident to remind car owners—especially those with older vehicles—to build relationships with reliable independent mechanics to avoid being upsold unnecessary services at dealerships. Data shows that independent repair shops are, on average, 34% cheaper than dealerships and are rated higher by consumers in terms of satisfaction, pricing, and honesty. Lexus has not yet responded to the incident.
