On January 20, a XPeng owner shared a harrowing experience on social media: at around 11 p.m., while driving through a green-light intersection at approximately 70 km/h in dense fog, the driver failed to spot a pedestrian suddenly jaywalking due to obstructed visibility from the vehicle ahead. Fortunately, the car’s Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system promptly detected the hazard, automatically slowed down, activated the hazard lights, and brought the vehicle to a complete stop at the intersection—all before the driver even noticed the danger—thereby preventing a collision. At the time, the vehicle was operating with XPeng’s Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP) advanced driver-assistance system engaged. This incident highlights the critical role of active safety technologies like AEB in new energy vehicles, especially under low-visibility conditions such as nighttime or fog, effectively compensating for human visual blind spots and significantly enhancing driving safety.
