Honda recently announced it will cease production of its current fuel cell system models at the Fuel Cell System Manufacturing LLC joint venture with General Motors by the end of 2026. Thereafter, the company will fully focus on advancing its independently developed next-generation fuel cell system, using it as the cornerstone to expand its hydrogen-related business and explore new markets. This move marks Honda's accelerated push toward self-reliance in hydrogen energy technology, reducing its dependence on external partnerships to gain greater flexibility in controlling its R&D and market strategies, thereby strengthening its strategic position in the hydrogen energy sector.
