GAC Honda recently launched a new version of the Fit, starting at just RMB 66,800, with only 3,000 units available. However, the Fit’s total sales for 2025 reached only 2,695 units, causing it to fall out of the top ten best-selling subcompact cars. The updated model primarily features a 10.1-inch center console screen and enhanced smart connectivity functions, while powertrain and dimensions remain unchanged. Although the automaker claims 1,233 orders were received within five days, dealerships report very few actual customer reservations. Once selling over 120,000 units annually thanks to its spacious interior and fuel efficiency, the Fit is now steadily losing ground amid growing competition from electric subcompacts. Models like the BYD Seagull and Geely Xingyuan have taken the lead in the segment, leveraging advantages in cost, range, and smart features—Geely’s Xingyuan topped the subcompact category in 2025 with sales of 465,800 units. Meanwhile, Great Wall’s Ora brand is scaling back its operations, while NIO’s Firefly is entering the premium niche segment with a boutique small-car strategy. With the phase-out of new energy vehicle subsidies scheduled for 2026, competition in the subcompact market will increasingly hinge on genuine product competitiveness.
