The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) released a report on the 4th stating that Germany produced a record-high 1.67 million electric vehicles (EVs) in 2025, up 23% year-on-year. This included 1.22 million battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 450,000 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). Despite ongoing electrification efforts, Germany’s total vehicle production for the year stood at 4.15 million units, remaining at a low level since 2019. EVs now account for approximately 40% of total vehicle output. VDA President Hildegard Müller said this reflects the deepening pace of Germany’s transition to electric mobility and projected that EV production would rise further to 1.76 million units in 2026. According to data from Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), electric models made up about 30% of all newly registered vehicles in Germany in 2025, with registrations surging nearly 50% year-on-year—particularly driven by rapid growth in Chinese brands.
