On February 7, Tao Lin, Vice President of Tesla, stated at a media briefing in Beijing that the company plans to significantly increase its investment in AI hardware and software, as well as energy-related initiatives, in the Chinese market by 2026. Tesla has already established a local AI training center in China to optimize the localized performance of its intelligent driver-assistance systems. Tao revealed that Tesla’s global capital expenditures in 2026 are expected to exceed $20 billion, with a focus on AI computing capacity, robot factories, mass production of the autonomous electric vehicle Cybercab, energy storage, battery gigafactories, and charging infrastructure. She emphasized that Tesla has transformed from an electric vehicle company into a technology firm centered on AI, robotics, and energy, with a future vision encompassing humanoid robots and a global energy network. Although specific details about the computing power of the China-based AI training center were not disclosed, she noted that its current capabilities already meet existing demands.
