British woman Seyi Adeyemi recently shared on social media her surprise that her newly purchased Audi lacked a rearview camera. She only discovered this omission while attempting to reverse into a parking space, questioning, “How can an Audi not have a backup camera?” Although she noted the car’s overall driving experience was good, she said the absence of this feature made maneuvering the large vehicle inconvenient. Notably, in the United States, all new light-duty vehicles sold since May 2018 are legally required to come standard with a rearview camera system. While the UK does not have an explicit mandate, most new cars there now include this technology as standard due to EU regulations introduced in 2022. Many online commenters echoed her experience, saying their Audis also lacked the feature and required costly aftermarket installation—sometimes up to £850. Others questioned why she hadn’t verified the vehicle’s specifications before purchasing. Adeyemi has not yet responded to media inquiries.
