On February 9, 2026, an announcement by China's State Administration for Market Regulation revealed that Shanghai NIO Automobile Co., Ltd. has filed a recall of 246,229 vehicles affected by a software defect. The recall involves certain ES8, ES6, and EC6 models produced between March 16, 2018, and January 16, 2023. The issue stems from underlying software that, under specific driving conditions, may cause temporary blackouts of the instrument cluster and central infotainment screen, affecting critical functions such as vehicle speed display, fault warnings, and defrosting/defogging systems, thereby posing a safety risk. NIO will address the issue by remotely pushing software updates via OTA to Aspen version 3.5.6 or Alder version 2.1.0 and above. For vehicles unable to receive OTA updates, service centers will proactively contact owners to arrange in-person repairs. Vehicles already updated to the aforementioned versions require no further action. This recall underscores the critical importance of software stability for driving safety in the era of intelligent electric vehicles.
