Recently, numerous Chinese Tesla owners have reported sudden power failures in their Model Y and Model 3 vehicles while driving at high speeds, causing the cars to abruptly lose propulsion. In the case of the Model Y, the vehicle began slowing down when the remaining range was at 70 kilometers and completely lost power at 60 kilometers. The Model 3 experienced sudden deceleration after Autopilot (AP) engagement. Tesla’s customer service responded that out-of-warranty vehicles may suffer from unstable battery performance and require paid diagnostics, advising drivers to recharge when the remaining range reaches 100 kilometers during highway driving. Meanwhile, Tesla is facing a sharp decline in its 2025 financial performance, with global revenue falling for the first time and net profit nearly halved. Its sales have also dropped from the top spot in the global electric vehicle market. Revenue from the Chinese market has nearly stalled, with sales declining by 4.8% year-over-year. Adding to concerns, Elon Musk announced that production of the Model S and Model X will cease in Q2 2026, with the manufacturing lines repurposed for Optimus robot production. Industry observers worry this move could erode Tesla’s premium brand image, shifting its identity from a “tech pioneer” toward an “electric Toyota.”
