Tesla recently posted a job listing in Shanghai for an Autonomous Driving Test Engineer, based in the Lingang New Area. The role requires frequent travel to multiple domestic and international locations to conduct testing on public roads, racetracks, and closed courses. Candidates must be proficient in Python, C/C++, and MATLAB, possess experience testing ADAS or DAS systems, and be capable of driving prototype vehicles for real-world evaluations. A degree in computer science, physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, or a related field is required. Experience with microcontroller development or a background in motorsports is preferred. Industry insiders suggest this move may be part of Tesla’s preparations to validate and advance the deployment of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability in China. In mid-2024, Tesla secured China’s first FSD road-testing permit, and its Shanghai Gigafactory is also located in Lingang.
