In 2025, Ukraine’s new passenger vehicle sales reached a record high of 83,443 units, up 17% year-on-year. December alone saw a surge of 12,724 units sold—more than triple the figure from the same month in the previous year—driven largely by a pre-expiration buying rush ahead of the end of VAT exemptions for electric vehicles. In that month, BYD topped the sales chart with 3,164 units, surpassing Volkswagen (1,298 units) and Toyota (1,117 units) to claim its first-ever monthly sales crown in Ukraine. For the full year, Toyota narrowly led the market with 10,700 units sold, while BYD followed closely behind with 10,600 units, capturing a 26% market share and leaping from 11th place to second in the annual rankings. Notably, BYD has not yet established an official sales or after-sales service network in Ukraine; its nearly 10,000-unit sales were achieved solely through parallel imports. The brand’s popularity stems from its vehicles’ superior electric performance and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality—enabling them to power critical medical and communication equipment during wartime power outages, effectively serving as vital mobile power sources for Ukrainian consumers.
