Porsche Plans to Merge Taycan and Panamera into One Lineup with ICE, PHEV, and BEV Options

According to foreign media outlet Autocar, Porsche is planning to merge the Taycan and Panamera into a single unified model line, offering three powertrain options—gasoline, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric—within the same series. Spearheaded by new CEO Michael Lietz, this move aims to control costs, address declining sales, and manage the high expenses associated with adjusting its electrification strategy. Currently, the two models are built on significantly different platforms—the MSB and J1, respectively—but due to their similar dimensions (with wheelbases of 2,950 mm and 2,900 mm, respectively), Porsche is exploring ways to enhance synergies through shared components and even a unified brand positioning. Impacted by delays in the development of the SSP Sport platform, Porsche has already recorded an impairment charge of €1.8 billion. Consolidating the two model lines is expected to significantly reduce costs across R&D, production, and the supply chain, helping the company avoid the potential future discontinuation of either model.
