In February this year, China's auto exports reached another milestone—surpassing Japan for the first time to become Australia's largest source of imported vehicles. According to data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), Chinese brands sold 22,300 units in Australia that month, capturing approximately 25% of the market share. Japan and Thailand followed closely behind with 21,600 and 19,400 units, respectively. Although Toyota, Mazda, and Kia remained the top three best-selling brands in the Australian market for the first two months of 2024, Toyota’s sales declined by 24.9% year-on-year, Mazda dropped by 13.9%, and Kia saw a modest increase of 7%. This shift underscores the growing competitiveness of Chinese automobiles in mature global markets.
