Global microelectronics engineering company Melexis has launched the MLX80339, a new three-phase brushless DC (BLDC) motor driver IC. Integrating pre-validated motor control logic and supporting code-free configuration, the MLX80339 is designed for small fan applications in consumer electronics, industrial, and automotive markets. It enables rapid deployment of sensorless motor control systems without software development, allowing users to get a prototype up and running in just 15 minutes using Melexis’ “Start-to-Run” tool, evaluation kit, and Melexis Compact Master. The chip delivers up to 20W output power at 12V and up to 40W at 24V, with a configurable 3A current limit. It features integrated protection against undervoltage, overvoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature conditions. Operating from a supply voltage range of 6V to 26V and across a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C (with a junction temperature rating up to 150°C), the MLX80339 comes in a compact SO8-EP package, making it suitable for cooling fans, ceiling fans, automotive seat ventilation systems, as well as miniature motors, actuators, and pumps. The MLX80339 supports legacy PWM fan control while also offering UART and I²C digital interfaces for diagnostics or coordinated multi-fan control. Samples are now available, and the device is in mass production, accessible through authorized distribution channels.
