Recently, a Tesla owner posted on social media about a poor charging experience using BYD’s Flash Charging stations. The user complained that the charging gun has an awkward grip, is difficult to operate with one hand, and easily bumps against the Tesla’s charge port cover during insertion, posing a risk of damage. The post sparked heated online discussion, with some netizens arguing that since BYD’s Flash Charging stations weren’t originally designed specifically for Teslas, offering compatibility at all is already reasonable, and the criticism seems overly demanding. It is understood that BYD initially developed its Flash Charging stations based on its own vehicle requirements, primarily optimized for 800V high-voltage platforms. Vehicles using 400V platforms—like Teslas—can reduce station turnover efficiency when connected, so early versions didn’t prioritize compatibility. However, given Tesla’s significant market presence, BYD later made targeted adjustments to its chargers to enable proper insertion and charging for Tesla models. Automotive blogger “Xiang Bei Bu Duan Dian” noted that Tesla’s current ability to charge at BYD Flash Charging stations results from deliberate adaptation—not natural compatibility.
