Webasto has recently launched its next-generation panoramic roof shading technology—Smart Integrated Glazing (SIG). This innovative solution encapsulates the sunshade within a double-glazed unit, allowing it to slide seamlessly between the glass layers. The result is a sleek, integrated glass appearance with visible movement of the shade. The system supports integration with starlight ambient lighting or can be paired with an in-cabin cinema setup. By relocating the conventional sunshade into the interlayer between two glass panes, SIG reduces overall thickness, helping meet electric vehicles’ stringent requirements for roof height and improving rear headroom. In terms of thermal management, SIG employs physical shading to directly block solar radiation, offering superior cabin temperature control under summer conditions compared to most electrochromic glazing solutions. Additionally, the technology offers cost advantages at both material and manufacturing levels, making it well-suited for cost-sensitive vehicle models.
