From January to April 2026, China added 1.863 million new charging infrastructure units, a year-on-year increase of 49.4%. Of this, public charging facilities increased by 190,000 units, down 53.9% year-on-year, while private charging facilities grew by 1.673 million units, up 100.5% year-on-year. As of the end of April 2026, the total number of electric vehicle (EV) charging points nationwide reached 21.955 million, an increase of 47.4% compared to the same period last year. Public charging facilities totaled 4.907 million units, up 29.6% year-on-year, with a combined rated power capacity of 237 million kilowatts and an average power output of approximately 48.38 kW per unit. Private charging facilities amounted to 17.048 million units, rising 53.5% year-on-year, with a reported installed electrical capacity of 149 million kVA. Public charging infrastructure deployment was concentrated in ten provinces: Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Shandong, Henan, Fujian, Anhui, Sichuan, and Hubei, which together accounted for 66.3% of the national total. The majority of charging electricity consumption occurred in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hebei, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong, Fujian, Henan, and Shaanxi. Most of this electricity was used by buses and passenger cars, while other vehicle types—such as sanitation, logistics, and taxis—accounted for a relatively small share. In April 2026 alone, total national charging electricity consumption reached approximately 10.38 billion kWh, up 1.53 billion kWh month-over-month, representing a 69.0% year-on-year increase and a 17.4% month-over-month rise. During the same period, domestic sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 2.92 million units. Both NEV sales and charging infrastructure continued to grow rapidly, with a ratio of newly added charging points to newly sold vehicles at 1:1.6, indicating that the expansion of charging infrastructure has largely kept pace with the growth of the NEV market.
