At the 2026 Future Mobility Pioneers Conference, Peng Jun, co-founder of Pony.ai, unveiled the company’s safety operation system for its fully driverless Robotaxi service. Centered on shifting the "primary responsibility" from human drivers to the vehicle itself, this system establishes an integrated hardware-software closed-loop safety mechanism. On the algorithmic front, the system leverages "World Model 2.0," primarily trained through self-supervised learning in virtual environments. It proactively constructs specialized pedestrian models for long-tail scenarios and validates performance through a combination of structured testing and real-world road trials. On the hardware side, a three-tier redundancy mechanism is deployed: normal driving operations; degraded operation enabling safe pull-over (including highway exit navigation) upon failure; and emergency in-lane stopping under extreme failure conditions. Additionally, Pony.ai has established a comprehensive “1+8” safety framework. Building upon vehicle-level hardware and software redundancies, this system-level approach integrates cloud-based fleet dispatching, cybersecurity measures (such as DDoS attack mitigation), and rapid-response capabilities from ground crews and grid-based support personnel. On May 26, 2026, Pony.ai disclosed its first-quarter financial results: Robotaxi revenue reached RMB 59.12 million, surging 395.4% year-over-year—already exceeding half of the segment’s total revenue for all of 2025. Based on this strong performance, the company has raised its full-year 2026 Robotaxi revenue target from three times its 2025 figure to more than 3.5 times, and increased its targeted fleet size from 3,000 to over 3,500 vehicles. During the earnings call, management attributed the revised guidance primarily to robust commercialization results in Q1. Across all Tier-1 cities in China, Robotaxi revenue, paid ride volume, and user base continue to grow steadily. Guangzhou and Shenzhen have already achieved per-vehicle profitability. Furthermore, the company’s “co-built fleet” model has attracted numerous domestic and international partners, enhancing capital efficiency and accelerating fleet deployment.
