Stellantis Group announced it will begin production of three new Peugeot-brand all-electric and hybrid models at its Mulhouse plant in eastern France starting in 2029. This initiative forms a key part of the company’s global strategic upgrade and new product rollout. The group will invest €4 billion in the Mulhouse facility and an additional €5 billion in R&D, with the majority of these funds allocated to developing the STLA One electrified architecture. This platform will debut in 2027 at a Spanish plant, debuting with the new Peugeot 208. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa stated that annual global production based on the STLA One platform is expected to reach 2 million units by 2035. Compared to existing architectures, the new platform offers approximately 20% higher overall competitiveness and will enable the group to achieve cost parity with Chinese automakers in Europe. Additionally, to address overcapacity in Europe, Stellantis is implementing two measures: first, sharing production capacity at plants such as Rennes with partners, and second, launching new vehicle programs like the one at Mulhouse through targeted investments. Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron noted that Stellantis plans to invest a total of €10 billion in France.
