In a recent media interview, Wei Jianjun, Chairman of Great Wall Motor, stated that electric vehicles are not fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), emphasizing that both fuel-powered and electric vehicles are fundamentally durable consumer products. He pointed out that cars priced at hundreds of thousands of yuan do not possess FMCG characteristics, and the industry’s frequent model iterations and routine price cuts—driven by market competition—can mislead consumers into wrongly believing that automobiles have become FMCG items. Lu Fang, Chairman of Voyah Auto, shares a similar view. In a social media post, he stated that automobiles are first and foremost means of transportation, carrying significant responsibility for user and public safety. As high-value durable goods, cars represent substantial household expenditures and long-term usage expectations, directly impacting consumers’ vital interests. Lu stressed that the application of intelligent technologies should aim to enhance overall vehicle safety, reliability, and service life, with all technological advancements ultimately serving to improve driving safety and daily vehicle ownership experience.
