On August 21, China's State Administration for Market Regulation issued a notice announcing that nine automakers—Tesla, Xiaomi, Leapmotor, XPeng, Geely, Chery, Dongfeng Motor, BAIC BluePark, and FAW Group—are recalling multiple vehicle models due to issues related to in-cabin emergency mechanical door-release handles. The total number of affected vehicles exceeds 4 million, with Tesla accounting for the largest share—nearly 3 million units—covering Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X. According to Tesla China’s official customer service, the recall involves two main corrective measures. Affected owners will receive one or more of the following three notifications: "Add emergency door handle labeling," "Update vehicle software to implement automatic window-lowering after a crash," and "Update vehicle software to enhance driver attention monitoring." Software updates will be delivered via OTA (Over-the-Air). For vehicles requiring the emergency door handle label, owners can obtain the necessary stickers at any Tesla Service Center during routine maintenance or repair visits. The stickers are expected to arrive at service centers by the end of September, and the labeling process will remain available for three years, during which owners may claim them at any time. Vehicles already equipped with the warning label do not require reapplication.
