On February 4, Tesla announced that it now has over 9 million vehicle owners worldwide, with the Model 3 and Model Y contributing the most. Although Tesla’s overall production and deliveries in 2023 saw a slight year-over-year decline, these two models continued to demonstrate strong delivery performance. In the past six months alone, Tesla added nearly 1 million new owners—its official Chinese social media account announced three times between July and August last year that global owners had surpassed 8 million, and on December 30, the 9-millionth Tesla rolled off the production line at the Gigafactory Shanghai. Given that the vast majority of Tesla vehicles sold to date are Model 3s and Model Ys—and most remain in active use—the milestone of 9 million owners was well within expectations. Tesla’s official Weibo account in China also took the opportunity to extend Lunar New Year greetings to owners around the world.
