Xiaomi Auto recently announced the successful development and mass production of 2200 MPa hot-stamped steel—the highest-strength steel currently available in the industry—in collaboration with Academician Wang Guodong’s team, Yuchaitang, and Northeastern University. This advanced material has already been applied to the door anti-intrusion beams of the Xiaomi YU7 and integrated into the A- and B-pillars using hot gas forming technology, significantly enhancing the vehicle's crash resistance. Xiaomi stated that the development of this ultra-high-strength steel was driven by two key considerations: first, to reinforce occupant compartment protection and minimize structural intrusion during collisions; and second, to achieve lightweighting—reducing component weight at equivalent strength levels, thereby lowering energy consumption and improving handling performance. The next-generation SU7 will feature this material across all trims in an "integrated roll cage" design, further strengthening the vehicle's overall safety structure.
