On February 9, Xiaomi Auto announced that its next-generation SU7 and YU7 models will be the first in the industry to adopt 2,200 MPa hot-stamped ultra-high-strength steel—the highest-strength steel currently used in mass production. This advanced material was co-developed by Xiaomi in collaboration with Yucailab and Northeastern University, establishing a seamless "industry-academia-research" chain that closes the loop from theoretical research to practical application. During development, Xiaomi leveraged AI models to screen over 24 million alloy formulations, combining expert insights with experimental validation to significantly shorten the development cycle. By precisely tuning the ratios of multiple elements—including carbon, silicon, and chromium—the new steel achieves a critical balance between lightweight design and crash safety. Additionally, Xiaomi is already conducting preliminary research on 2,400 MPa hot-stamped steel, further intensifying its investment in materials science.
