Toyota Connected North America, a subsidiary of Toyota, has quietly launched Fluorite, a proprietary game engine specifically designed for in-vehicle systems. Built in C++, Fluorite supports a high-level game API in Dart and integrates seamlessly with Google’s cross-platform UI framework, Flutter—enabling developers to leverage their existing expertise. The engine allows touch-sensitive regions to be defined directly within Blender and utilizes modern graphics APIs like Vulkan to deliver near-console-quality hardware-accelerated rendering. Fluorite also incorporates Flutter’s hot reload feature, letting developers preview changes in real time within just a few frames, significantly boosting development efficiency. Toyota stated that mainstream engines like Unity are too resource-heavy and costly to license for embedded automotive systems, prompting the company to develop its own lightweight, high-performance solution to support 3D interactive interfaces in future vehicle models.
