Apple has lifted a decade-long restriction by allowing CarPlay to play video content for the first time in iOS 26—but only when the vehicle is parked. The new feature, called "In-Car AirPlay Video," lets users watch video content from their iPhone on the CarPlay display while the car is stationary. However, the feature isn't enabled automatically; automakers must explicitly support it in their infotainment systems and complete Apple’s MFi (Made for iPhone/iPod/iPad) certification. Although Apple has already opened the relevant APIs to developers, as of February 2026, no automaker has publicly announced support for the feature, meaning users may not be able to access it in the near term. Additionally, iOS 26 introduces a redesigned CarPlay interface, widget support, and updates to apps such as Music and Messages.
