Volkswagen Group’s Autostadt museum has recently drawn renewed attention with the reappearance of Bugatti’s 2009 Galibier concept car. Built on the Bentley Arnage platform, this four-door fastback was powered by an 8.0-liter twin-supercharged W16 engine producing approximately 1,000 horsepower and capable of running on ethanol fuel. Unlike the Veyron’s quad-turbo setup, the Galibier featured a front-mounted supercharger configuration, emphasizing low-end torque to better suit its grand touring luxury positioning. The interior exuded opulence: trimmed throughout in premium leather and polished wood, it featured digital instrumentation, a central touchscreen, and rear-seat screens that could be raised, lowered, and rotated. Most remarkably, the dashboard housed a detachable wristwatch valued at $100,000. Although Bugatti initially planned to put the Galibier into production, the project was ultimately shelved over concerns it might dilute the brand’s focus on the Veyron. Now, with the new Tourbillon V16 hypercar already sold out through 2029, Bugatti may once again consider reviving a luxurious four-door model—bringing the spirit of the Galibier back to life.
