Audi A3 prices have recently plummeted, with the base model now selling below RMB 100,000 in some regions—significantly lower than its official manufacturer-suggested retail price range of RMB 165,900 to RMB 209,900. Once a favorite among young buyers as Audi’s entry-level luxury compact sedan, the A3’s steep discounting reflects broader challenges facing the brand. In 2025, Audi’s sales in China fell by 5% year-over-year, marking the second consecutive annual decline and returning to volume levels last seen seven or eight years ago. The price cuts aren’t limited to the A3; core models like the A4L and Q3 are also seeing widespread discounts. Compounding these issues, over 52% of Audi dealers reported losses in the first half of the year, forcing some 4S stores to shut down, with per-vehicle losses reaching RMB 30,000 to RMB 50,000. Audi’s delayed electrification strategy has further exacerbated its struggles: electric vehicles account for only 13.7% of its total sales, leaving the brand with minimal presence in China’s booming new energy vehicle market. Industry observers believe this signals an accelerating end to the era of “brand premium” for traditional luxury automakers, as consumers increasingly prioritize product substance over brand image—a shift toward genuine value-driven purchasing decisions.
