In 2024, BYD achieved global sales of 4.6 million vehicles, surpassing Ford Motor Company (approximately 4.4 million units) for the first time and rising to sixth place globally. Ford’s full-year wholesale deliveries declined by about 2%, as the automaker, despite maintaining solid performance in the U.S. market, continued losing ground in Europe and China to Chinese brands such as BYD, Xiaomi, and Geely, which have captured market share with high-value offerings and advanced electric vehicle technologies. Meanwhile, BYD is accelerating its overseas expansion, having already exported 1.05 million vehicles in 2025 and aiming to increase that figure to 1.3 million by year-end. Toyota retained its position as the world’s top-selling automaker for the sixth consecutive year, reporting a 4.6% year-over-year sales increase to reach 11.3 million vehicles in 2024.
