First National Standard for Solid-State Batteries in EVs Set for July 2026 Release

China has made clear progress on its first national standard for solid-state batteries used in electric vehicles. Wang Fang, Chief Scientist at China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), recently disclosed that the draft for public comment of the national standard GB/T "Solid-State Batteries for Electric Vehicles – Part 1: Terminology and Classification" was completed in December 2025, with the public consultation period running until February 28, 2026. From January to February 2026, CATARC will organize validation tests to refine testing methods and confirm evaluation criteria. The standard is scheduled for final review and submission for approval in April 2026 and is expected to be officially published in July 2026. This standard will, for the first time, clearly define key terms such as liquid-state batteries, hybrid solid-liquid batteries (also known as semi-solid-state batteries), and all-solid-state batteries, laying a foundational framework for the standardized development of the industry.
