According to foreign media reports, Germany produced 1.22 million electric vehicles (EVs) in 2024, a 15% year-on-year increase, surpassing the United States (1.04 million) and ranking second globally behind China (16.1 million), thus becoming the world's second-largest EV producer. Data from the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) shows that Germany’s total passenger car production for the year reached 4.15 million units, with nearly 30% being battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Including plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), the share of electrified vehicles reached 40%. In the same period, EV registrations in Europe totaled nearly 2.6 million units, up almost 30% year-on-year. Volkswagen led the European market with sales of 275,000 units, surging 56% compared to the previous year, while Tesla’s sales declined by 27%, totaling 238,800 units. VDA President Hildegard Müller stated that Germany’s record-high domestic EV output underscores its leading position in electric and climate-neutral mobility.
