BMW Group recently announced a global recall of approximately 575,000 vehicles due to a safety defect in the engine starter system. The recall affects models produced between July 2020 and July 2022 equipped with a specific starter unit, as well as vehicles that had this component installed during repairs. According to German media reports, the affected parts may experience excessive starter activations and accelerated solenoid valve wear, which in severe cases could lead to short circuits, causing the starter motor to overheat and potentially ignite a fire while driving. This is not the first time BMW has issued a recall for this issue—back in September 2025, the company recalled over 330,000 vehicles due to a similar risk. BMW has released a statement confirming it will inspect and repair affected vehicles to eliminate the hazard.
