According to data released on February 13 by France's National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE), employment in the French automotive sector—including vehicle manufacturers and parts suppliers—plummeted by 33% between 2010 and 2023, due to factors such as declining car sales, factory closures, and production outsourcing. Full-time positions in the industry fell from 425,500 in 2010 to 286,800 in 2023, a cumulative loss of nearly 139,000 jobs, with layoffs becoming increasingly widespread.
