A Los Angeles auto technician shared a repair case on TikTok: a woman was told by a Honda dealership that she needed to spend $11,150 to replace her transmission with a brand-new OEM unit—or $7,000 for a used one—because of "metal shavings" found in the transmission fluid. However, after inspecting the vehicle himself, the technician discovered the actual issue was merely a faulty transmission oil pressure sensor, which cost only about $150 to replace. He also noted that the dealership triggered the check-engine light only after draining the transmission fluid and charged her a $235 "diagnostic fee." After the repair, the car returned to normal operation. The video sparked widespread discussion online, with many commenters urging car owners to seek a second opinion before agreeing to expensive repairs—especially when the diagnosis is vague or the quoted price seems unusually high.
