A car mechanic shared on TikTok his frustrating experience of being repeatedly "tortured" by Ford's iconic alert chime while servicing Ford vehicles. The video quickly went viral, amassing over 118,000 views. He complained that Ford’s diagnostic system, IDS/FDRS, loads extremely slowly, forcing him to endure the loud, distinctive chime over and over again. Many fellow technicians echoed his sentiment in the comments: “That sound haunts all my nightmares!” Some viewers even suggested jamming a screwdriver into the door lock to silence the chime. Interestingly, while mechanics find it unbearable, some music enthusiasts have praised the chime for its warm, melodic quality—so much so that they’ve set it as their alarm tone. Reportedly, Ford has a dedicated “Vehicle Harmony Sound Team” that uses music theory to design around 30 different alert tones, employing varying frequencies and rhythms to convey everything from urgent safety warnings to gentle reminders.
