Nissan has announced a recall of 642,986 Rogue SUVs from the 2023 to 2025 model years due to two serious issues affecting their 1.5-liter three-cylinder VC-Turbo engines. The first issue stems from the electronic throttle control (ETC) assembly. Under specific ECM software conditions, routine diagnostics could cause gear breakage, leading to a loss of power and preventing the vehicle from shifting into drive or reverse. The second issue involves engine bearing failure. Investigations revealed that high-temperature engine oil can degrade lubrication performance, potentially causing bearings to seize and resulting in complete engine failure. Some vehicles previously repaired under earlier campaigns will still require the new corrective measures, which include reprogramming the ECM software and inspecting the oil pan for metal debris. Nissan has already notified dealers and will begin mailing recall notices to affected vehicle owners by the end of next month.
