On February 20, NIO announced that it achieved a record-breaking single-day total of 170,305 battery swaps, marking the third consecutive day of all-time highs. The three busiest battery swap stations that day were located in Nancheng County, Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province (183 swaps); Tongcheng City, Anqing, Anhui Province (171 swaps); and Baoying County, Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province (165 swaps). As of now, NIO has built more than 8,600 charging and battery swap stations nationwide, including over 3,700 battery swap stations and more than 1,000 highway swap stations, covering 550 cities and completing its “9 North-South Corridors, 11 East-West Corridors, and 16 Major Metropolitan Clusters” network. By February 6, 2026, NIO’s cumulative battery swaps are projected to reach 100 million, signifying large-scale market validation of its battery swap model. NIO Chairman William Li highlighted nine key advantages of battery swapping: ultra-fast recharging in just three minutes, battery health checks, separation of vehicle and battery ownership, flexible battery leasing, fully automated operation, extensive coverage, extended battery lifespan, ease of recycling, and support for grid load balancing by helping to shave peaks and fill valleys in electricity demand. He emphasized that battery swapping is becoming a mainstream energy replenishment solution for new energy vehicles.
